A kitten I once owned named Lily served as the inspiration for Lily’s Grooves. Lily loved music as much as I do. She liked to perch on top of my turntable and watch the record spin, becoming more mesmerized as songs filled the air. I started taking notes and writing down memories of how Lily would mellow out once the music started playing. All the record shops I have visited over the years made me wonder how a bouncy, music loving kitten could fit into that setting. I finalized the plot of Lily’s Grooves after many drafts, edits and ideas. Once the story was finished, I reached out to my friend Katrina Oztapovicz who is a very talented illustrator. Her lively artwork truly brings Lily, Carrie and Ed to life.
